Hiking Series - Ousel Falls + Music in the Mountains

  • Ousel Falls Park Trail Ousel Falls Road Gallatin Gateway, MT, 59730 United States (map)

We'll be doing a series of hikes this summer. Most of them will be moderate level hikes with some elevation gain. The hiking pace is moderate and allows for easy conversation with your hiking companions. Excited to play in the mountains with you!

Ousel Falls is a short, easy hike in the heart of Big Sky. It’s 1.6 miles round trip and the elevation gain is 400 feet.

For those that are interested, we'll head to Music in the Mountains, a free concert series, at Len Hill Park in the Big Sky Town Center after the hike. The Headliner, a four-women bluegrass group called Big Richard starts at 8pm. There are food trucks and wine/beer available for purchase but if you can, please bring a picnic item to share and whatever you’d like to drink.

What to bring:
Hike: I recommend wearing a backpack/camelback ideally with a waist strap to take the pressure off your shoulders. Some people just carry a water bottle for this hike but here are other items you may want to consider bringing: plenty of water, snacks, layers/rain jacket, baseball cap, sun glasses, bug spray, bear spray and comfortable, broken-in hiking/walking shoes.

Music: Blanket, stadium seat or low to the ground chair, picnic item to share (or money to buy from food trucks), drinks, your own plate, utensils, cup, napkins, coat/layers.

New to the area?

If you're new to the area and haven't done much hiking yet, please know that our air is thinner here which makes hiking a little more difficult. Make sure you acclimate to the area before joining us for any moderate level hikes. Message with any questions/concerns on whether this might be the right event for you.

Directions:
From Four Corners, head south on Hwy. 191 toward Big Sky. Drive just over 30 miles, then turn right onto Big Sky Spur Rd. Continue 3 miles and turn left onto Ousel Falls Rd. Look for the Ousel Falls Park sign on the left; turn left there, and you've reached the trailhead.

Note:

Dogs are not allowed at Music in the Mountains so please leave them at home this time. I will attempt to get a carpool going. Please let us know if you are interested in carpooling or willing to drive and bring others with you upon registration.
